Description:
This Presidential Plenary kicks off the discussion of the AAG 2023 theme, Toward More Just Geographies. Join AAG President Marilyn Raphael, her panelists, and your colleagues in a discussion on the nature of Just Geographies—and what we must we do together to bring ourselves closer to them.
A Just Geography is not simply a condition or place, but rather a goal towards which we should work. It is also not spatially or temporally fixed, nor is it something that we can achieve and then move on. Rather, a Just Geography sits on the near horizon, something we envision and can work to get close to, together.
Because we each have different ideas about what justness means to us, this session is intended to help us put together shared principles, definitions, and actions for achieving spatial justice(s).
