Abstract
Industrial heritage is not only a physical witness to the trajectory of urban development, but also a home for local communities to live in, bearing the physical, spiritual, emotional and social needs of residents. In this paper, the focus is shifted from the physical objects of urban heritage to the social groups housed therein, and the empathetic response of users to the site is explored from the perspective of "landscape empathy", and how designers can use this psychological state to design and plan industrial heritage sites in order to form or strengthen the empathy of users. The purpose of this study is to explore how landscape can learn new methods and ideas from other disciplines and apply them in design practice, in order to seek a more harmonious symbiosis between people, city and nature. The research focuses on the guiding theory of "landscape sympathy" and will use literature, case studies, field research, interviews and statistical surveys to investigate the relationship between landscape associates, sites, and landscape associates and sites as research objects. The study explores the composition, process, application mode, practice method and influence of the "landscape empathy" theory system in the temporal and spatial dimensions. Through this theory, we hope to plan and design industrial heritage, inject emotion and meaning into the landscape, and perpetuate the memory and culture of the site.
