Abstract
Murmansk and Norilsk are considered to be two of the largest cities in the Arctic. As such, they both face a multitude of various issues, adaptations, and histories that are incredibly distinct from other locations. When doing work in sustainable development, it is essential to take into account an area’s history and location when making proposals or trying to implement change. This poster session aims to look at the history, location (inland vs. coastal), and other distinct issues present in the arctic to determine how these factors can be taken into consideration in the future sustainable development of these cities. The location and history of Murmansk and Norilsk are entirely different, and as such, they need tailored and potentially drastically different plans for sustainable development.
