Abstract

This paper will examine benefit sharing regimes in the Arctic extractive sector from the justice perspective. A critical assessment of existing benefit sharing principles, modes and mechanisms will be conducted using a broad range of case studies across the Arctic and Subarctic, where extractive companies interact with Indigenous and urban communities. A transition from benefit sharing to benefit co-management and benefit sovereignty will be discussed.
