Abstract
Ensuring access to affordable and healthy food is crucial for public well-being. Studies have shown that the neighborhood food environment can play an important role in residents’ diets and consequently health outcomes. While healthy food access has long been an issue in many neighborhoods, the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the problem. During COVID-19, the frequency of grocery store visits has declined while the amount of food ordered online has risen remarkably. The aim of this research is to discern and contrast the variations in the food access of urban dwellers prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our research findings have the potential to inform policies and programs aimed at improving the food environment and promoting healthy eating habits in urban areas to create a more equitable and supportive food environment where access to nutritious food is a pressing concern.
