Description:
Global average sea level rise has been increasing at an accelerating rate over the past century, a trend which is projected to continue in the coming centuries (Fox-Kemper et al., 2021). However the global mean trend is insufficient for understanding the geographic differences that shape locally experienced sea level rise impact. Sea level change varies widely around the world and impacts are shaped by a combination of physical and sociopolitical factors. The geographies of sea level rise vary spatially and temporally and are brought about by regional differences in the mechanisms driving sea level rise, how coastal spaces are co-created by human and more-than-human influences, and by a wide variety of socioecological factors. In this session we will hear research advances using an array of different methodological approaches to assess sea level rise impacts to human and nonhuman communities in a variety of locations.
