Description:
This plenary will end the symposium and we welcome participation from geographers, GIScientists, health researchers, other scientists, and stakeholders at the 2023 AAG Annual Meeting to address the challenges of global pandemics, climate change, and food security. This session will address visions on health research related to infectious diseases, pandemics, pandemic readiness, climate change, food security, environmental health, and public health crises.
Prof. Douglas Richardson (Harvard University) will start the closing plenary with his presentation on Climate Change Finance, ESG, and Geography. After years of elusive and disappointing attempts to design robust financing programs by governments, we still cannot adequately fund the actions needed to combat climate warming (reference the litany of broken promises delivered by governments last year in Glasgow). And most of the past private sector financing methods have not been stellar either, plagued by past flawed carbon markets, greenwashing, poor data), though ESG financing remains promising if it could incorporate more clarity, transparency, and long-term monitoring into its projects.
This session is part of the AAG Symposium on Geospatial Approaches to Pressing Grand Challenges: Global Pandemics, Climate Change, and Food Security.
