Abstract
This research evaluates the impacts of floods within the Fond D’Or watershed in Saint Lucia by performing hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of past storm events, as a demonstration of the capabilities and constraints of modeling for improving flood warning systems in the future.
To analyze the impact of flood vulnerabilities on the Fond D’Or watershed various hydrological, and hydraulic modeling tools and GIS software were used to estimate the basin’s response due to precipitation. This project implements geospatial tools: Arc Hydro (ArcGIS), HEC-GeoHMS, and HEC-GeoRAS, to perform various geospatial analyses and modeling of the watershed. We utilize the United States Army Corps of Engineers’ Hydrologic Engineering Center’s Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS) to simulate the complete hydrologic processes within the watershed. The Hydrologic Engineering Center’s River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) is used to model and analyze the floodplain within the watershed. This research aims to provide the best recommendations for stakeholders on optimal land use and watershed management practices.
