Description:
This paper session invites virtual or in-person research presentation at the intersection of disasters and forced displacement.
Topics of interests include, but are not limited, to:
disaster resilience indicators for displaced people;
physical resilience studies of long-term displacement situations such as refugee camps;
disaster resilience interactions between displaced populations and host communities;
policy analysis of how long-term displaced populations are supported by governments, communities and other actors to build disaster resilience;
livelihood and economic development for longer-term resilience of the displaced;
visualization of disasters and displacement;
simulation of disasters and displacement through methods such as GeoGames with a particular interest in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for GeoGames and simulations;
spatial data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence for prediction of forced displacement due to disasters or other drivers;
educational approaches to empowering displaced people such as refugees, internally displaced people, and persons of concern support organizations (i.e., NGOs) to use spatial methodologies such as GIS for creating resilience among displaced populations;
pedagogical and educational approaches to teaching disasters and displacement such as study abroad experiences, creating international student research experiences, and lessons learned using various mapping and survey tools and technologies.
