Description:
While geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI), spatial data science, big data, and high-performance computing continuously increases the capability of modern geographic information systems (GIS), this analytical power comes with the responsibility to ensure that these technologies are used ethically, with consideration such as privacy, fairness, and interpretability. This session aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, and educators from various disciplines to discuss and explore approaches that promote responsible and ethical use of GeoAI and spatial data science in research and education.
We invite submissions on a wide range of topics related to ethics, including but not limited to:
- Ethical GIS in higher education
- Privacy-preserving techniques in spatial data analysis
- Human dimensions of large-scale geo-social computing
- Fairness and bias considerations in GeoAI applications
- Misrepresentation in geovisualization
- Interpretability and explainability of GeoAI algorithms
- Risks and challenges posed by generative AI in spatial data science
- Ethical use of location-based services
- Geospatial data for the common good
- Legal and regulatory frameworks for responsible GeoAI
