Abstract
Although it has been acknowledged that inter-city exchanges are intricately linked to various socio-economic networks, previous scholarly research has mainly focused on analyzing individual types of networks in isolation, rather than conducting studies from a comparative perspective that explores the interplay and interconnections among different networks. The objective of this study is to analyze the multi-city network systems in Korean cities, specifically focusing on traffic, freight traffic, and information flow. Additionally, the study aims to highlight the significance of interdependence among different types of networks within the city-region. This will be achieved through a multi-return analysis of dependent variables related to urban growth. Subsequently, the concept of local Moran's I was introduced to examine the interconnected growth dynamics across different types of networks. This framework offers a systematic approach to investigate the correlation between urban networks within a country and their respective growth patterns, considering diverse perspectives. The anticipated outcomes are as follows. Traffic networks are significant in large urban areas, although cargo networks may assume a greater level of importance in smaller municipalities. Simultaneously, the proliferation of the Internet and smartphones has led to the growing significance of online networks. As result, cities must modify their online, cargo, and traffic networks to align with the evolving circumstances. The results of this study indicate that employing network approaches in the multiplex dimension can provide insights into the optimal approach for creating network connection cooperation and growth strategies in metropolitan regions, considering specific network kinds.
