Description
In 2015 the prevalence of undernourishment increased for the first time in decades, and in the future global agriculture faces the significant challenge of feeding a population projected to increase to 9 billion by mid-century under an evolving climate. This session will explore the geography of agricultural production systems at local to global scales inclusive of crops, climate, water, soils, and technology.
We seek papers that address all aspects of food production and security. Topics include, but are not limited to, agricultural climate risk, statistical and process-based methods of evaluating crop yields, land use and land cover change, the representation of water scarcity, soils, and nitrogen in crop simulations, interactions between agriculture and extreme events, climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies, proliferation of violence and food security, and precision agriculture. This session is sponsored by the Climate, Geographies of Food and Agriculture, and Water Resources Specialty Groups.
