Abstract

Mitigating climate change requires joint efforts from various sectors, and one of the major components is governmental policies regarding climate change. Worldwide, climate change has increasingly become a major issue for election. In fact, public polls in the United States and Taiwan suggested that many voters believe that climate change should be an important issue when considering who they should support during the election. There is limited study, however, discuss the factors that influence voters’ beliefs regarding the importance of climate change issue in terms of voting behavior. In this study, a representative telephone survey (n = 715) was conducted to understand Taiwanese’s climate change risk perceptions, issue involvement, climate change-related behaviors, and preferred societal response; respondents’ rating on the importance of climate change issue for 2020 presidential election is asked. Multiple regression will be used to understand factors that influence voters’ beliefs regarding the importance of climate change issue in terms of 2020 Taiwan presidential election. The results will be presented and discussed in the conference.
