Description

River systems are highly dynamic and driven by the interactions among geomorphic, hydraulic, hydrologic, ecological, and anthropogenic processes. Rivers move sediment and flow constituents from uplands to oceans, dynamically shaping the landscape along the way. Improved understanding of river dynamics is also vital for dealing with socio-economic problems such as floods, water supply, sedimentation, and climate change, and to develop effective river management and restoration strategies. This session invites studies of all aspects of river dynamics (geomorphology, hydrology, hydraulics, ecology) and the interaction of these dynamics with society, across all spatial and temporal scales using a range of field, modeling, and remote sensing approaches in a variety of geographic settings.
