Abstract
This presentation identifies tourism as an agent of cannabis normalization in a legal, Canadian, context. The availability, accessibility and cultural accommodation of cannabis into services, attractions and/or amenities in Canada’s tourism industry is evidence of the changing attitudes towards cannabis where it becomes accepted and embedded into already existing social practices. Normalization is a framework that moves cannabis tourism away from associations with deviancy and illicit behaviour. An inventory of cannabis tourism related businesses (across all sectors of the tourism industry) available in Canada is evidence of the increased availability of cannabis. This paper contributes to establishing cannabis tourism as a new area of research as well as explores cannabis tourism as a normalizing trend, specific to the legal context in Canada.
