Abstract
We present a research frame for assessing the benefits of public transit systems when multiple individual transport modes are integrated with a case study of the metropolitan area of Seoul, South Korea, where bus and subway systems were seamlessly integrated. The issues that we address are two folded: [1] how to assess the public transit benefits when the public transit systems are integrated, and [2] to identify the areas with improving transit benefits and diminished transit benefits which is the foundation to explore spatial disparity of transit benefits. To do this, an analytical framework for investigating the public transit benefits by each single transit mode and integrated mode is provided. A set of standardized measurements are prescribed to gauge the spatial disparity in the area within the analytical framework. As a result, the areas are identified with strong positive/negative benefits, which were not identified in traditional transit accessibility measures will be discussed in the context of public transit policy.
