Abstract
Research to date reveals considerable uncertainty concerning future European fertility trends. In Czechia the recent increasing trend in the total fertility rate up to 1.83 in 2021 was interrupted by a sharp decline to 1.66 in 2022. Is this a temporary deviation or a trend change? The aim of the contribution is to assess the vulnerability and resilience of the Czech population from the demographic perspective by addressing the risk of fertility decline to low level, the risk of the renewed childbearing postponement and movement towards a new reproductive pattern. To what extent can we expect to see a widening of the differences between those born before the early 1990s, i.e. more numerous generations, and those born in the 1990s, i.e. significantly less numerous generations? Can we expect that the childbearing pattern in Czechia will differ from those of other late childbearing patterns in Europe?
