Abstract
The COVID-19 Pandemic exposed a lot of problems regarding information and access to medical care across a lot of spectrums- including the Mental Health sphere. As research about mental health improves, more and more people start to seek information and treatment for their issues relating to mental health. Despite this, many populations of vulnerable people still do not know where to find accurate information, helpful services, and facilities designed to help with their recovery.
This project will look at the presence of different types of mental health care facilities in Pennsylvania while taking in the veteran population of the state. In the United States, Pennsylvania has the fourth largest veteran population at over 600,000 living veterans. And while there are a lot of previously-established care options available for those seeking mental health-related services, many veterans do not or cannot receive mental health care- and for a multitude of reasons. Through research, geo-visualizations, and some spatial analysis, this project seeks to understand some of the spatial reasons why veterans might not receive mental health care.
