Abstract
The American Southwest is in the midst of a record setting drought; one with no apparent end in sight. Our question is if water usage in this region, especially water from the Colorado River Watershed, is being used at a sustainable rate. The simple answer is no; water is being used at a rate that is guaranteed to deplete water as a resource from this region. Our goal is to provide the knowledge necessary to prevent this from happening. By incorporating different angles of analysis such as the causes of declining water availability, demographic changes, political challenges, and potential infrastructure implementation, we plan to identify various areas with room for improvement. By implementing solutions in these areas of improvement, an overall reduction in water usage can be expected in the region. This would solve the water shortage crisis of the American Southwest, and provide guidance on how to solve large scale water shortages in other regions in the world.
