Abstract
One of the goals of the doctoral thesis "Media image of the migrant crisis in the geographical area: the example of Croatia" is to investigate the relationship between the media image of migrant (refugee) issues created through relevant online media publications in Croatia during and after the refugee crisis with the image of selected actors who have had direct experience with migrants.
It has been hypothesized that the migrant crisis has made the less mentioned locations visible in public space, and that with the end of the same crisis, those locations are returning to their "media darkness". The long hypothesis is that the media image of migrant (refugee) issues created through relevant online media publications in Croatia in the period during and after the refugee crisis is significantly different from selected actors who have had direct experience with migrants.
In the poster, I will present the results of content and machine analysis of media content and language technology provided by „Presscut“. The key articles of eight national internet portals were selected according to the key most read articles according to the GemiusAudience overnight methodology.
On the body of articles, a software NERC (Named Entity Recognition and Classification) analysis was performed, which detects and extracts named entities from the text and classifies them as personal names, names of organizations, ethnicities, time expressions, coins and locations.
Second hypothesis was tested through interviews with key actors of the migrant crisis for the same locations selected for qualitative comparison.
