Abstract
'Walking as method' is useful but privileges certain cities. Atlanta as a site is not walkable, huge metro area, car-dependent city in the southeastern United States. Dominated by anti-MARTA (public transit) sentiments that are heavily connected to race. In this presentation I will describe what driving is like there and explain Atlanta through a car windshield where individuals engage in a kind of cyborg feminism. Driving impacted interview process - physical exhaustion, extremely particular about timing, participants also discussed transit and mobility within the context of being queer in the city. Finally, I will discuss how driving was a part of the method of accessing the city in my work.
