Abstract
The Pan American Institute of Geography and History (IPGH) is the lead academic geography organization in Latin America, drawing leadership and membership from every nation in the Americas. Within the organization are commissions and committees established to advance multi-year organizational priorities. Beginning last year, the IPGH chartered the Pan-American Network for Geography Education, a group of researchers identifying and advancing priorities in geography education in the region. This presentation outlines these priorities including discussing further immediate action steps and longer-term goals developed during the first several months of work. The committee work groups seek to advance geography education in four broad areas to include online education for geography learning, best practices in face-to-face instruction, geography teaching resources, and extending geographic teaching to other disciplines and contexts. The collective goal of this multi-year, multinational collaborative endeavor is to strengthen geography teaching strategies across all grade levels and demonstrate the advantages of thinking geographically.
