Abstract
As the advance of remote sensing and machine learning technologies , new land use/land cover products with fine resolution have been created during the recent years. Although each products have its own calibration results and comparison with other product, the comparisons are only focus on the total area of each LULC class. A more in-depth comparison across different LULC products focus certain urbanization scenario is needed. This study uses the four newest land use/land cover (LULC) products to identify the urban land change in six representative urbanizing regions across different areas in Nigeria. The findings identified the quantitative level of agreement in the amount and in the spatial configuration of urban land expansion among these four LULC products in those six regions. In addition, the landscape metrics of urban land cover is used to examine the characteristics of spatial pattern and fragmentation level between different LULC products.
