Abstract
Refugee camps were initially designed to provide people with short-term safety but due to
prolonged emergencies, it is common for refugees to live in camps for years or even decades.
Water stress and hazards such as droughts and floods are disproportionally affecting
communities in the Global South, further constituting a push factor that challenges refugees'
and Internally Displaced People’s (IDP) personal health and security. This poster will focus on
two long-term refugee camps in Africa. This presentation will provide an analysis of 30-year temperature averages of historical and projected temperature climate data, utilizing GIS spatial datasets, and satellite imagery with the goal of providing risk assessment for these camps. This work will contribute to international concern for refugee camp placement and the long-term risks associated with these camps for changing climate scenarios.
