Description:
Smart cities, as a mode of planning and urban administration, are becoming ubiquitous on a global scale, yet this phenomenon's social, political, economic, and environmental implications vary widely. The extent to which geographical, social, and political-economic contexts and relationships are integral to understanding the power relations, pitfalls, and potentialities of this highly variegated phenomenon is explored through an examination of the findings of a three-year comparative research project addressing smart city initiatives in Barcelona, Stockholm, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei, Calgary, and Toronto.
