Description:
The COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally challenged qualitative research practices and catalyzed methodological transformation. Physical distancing requirements, travel restrictions, and temporally- and spatially-fluctuating public health guidelines caused many qualitative geographers to adopt online, remote, and other creative forms of stakeholder engagement. This session seeks to capture fluid qualitative approaches since the COVID-19 pandemic onset: evolving thought processes, problem-solving, innovation, creativity, and learning. Papers discuss moving qualitative research to online, telephone, remote, and hybrid formats; pandemic impacts on qualitative researchers and participants; growth and innovation of new and established qualitative research methods; and ethical considerations and lessons learned from conducting qualitative research during COVID-19.
