Abstract
This paper reports on a large social survey project that examined household scale water insecurity challenges in the southern Bangladeshi upazila (district) of Teknaf, an already water stressed district that received more than half a million Rohingya refugees from neighbouring Myanmar in 2017 and 2018. In 2022 household surveys were conducted in a stratified sample (N=460) of host and refugee households first in the wet season (April) and again in the dry season (August). This paper reports on some of the key findings from this survey, particularly with respect to water access, water storage, water related injury and illness and differential water insecurity experience of the two communities. The analytical perspective is informed by Sen and Nussbaum’s entitlements approach.
