Abstract
In developing countries where water problems are endemic, households adopt diverse coping strategies. Such strategies, including the reliance on poor-quality water and the consumption of processed foods in place of healthy ones, have been well-documented. Households faced with water challenges can also change residential locations. Indeed, migration has received significant attention as a coping strategy for extreme events such as floods, fires, and droughts. However, the relationships between slow-onset events, such as households' water insecurity and migration decisions as a coping strategy, have received little attention. In this paper, we used empirical data from three peri-urban settlements in Ghana to explore how households enact migration decisions when faced with water insecurity.
