The threshold effect of tourism development on rural habitat quality: an urban model study in Anhui Province

Abstract

Nowadays, with the rapid development of urbanization, rural tourism has become an important way for rural economic development, while tourism is also a comprehensive phenomenon integrating social and ecological aspects, rather than a single economic activity. While driving rural development, tourism has also placed higher demands on the quality of rural habitat. However, it is not known whether excessive tourism development will have an impact on the quality of rural habitat environment. Based on this, this paper takes 16 prefecture-level cities in Anhui Province as an example, and evaluates and analyzes the rural habitat environment quality by using the combined weight model of AHP-entropy weight method based on the data of Anhui Statistical Yearbook and Anhui Construction Yearbook, etc. The non-linear influence of tourism development on rural habitat environment quality is studied by using the threshold regression model in the form of panel data. It was found that: the overall spatial distribution of rural habitat environment quality in Anhui Province showed a high south and low north; the influence of tourism development on rural habitat environment quality showed an upward trend of gradually decreasing coefficient with the increase of tourism income density; therefore, tourism development had a significant positive influence on rural habitat environment quality, but this influence effect gradually weakened with the increase of tourism income density. Therefore, it is expected to provide a scientific basis for the subsequent construction of rural tourism in Anhui Province and improve the sustainability of tourism and the quality of rural habitat environment.
