Abstract
The role of cities in both climate change mitigation and adaptation is increasingly clear, and member countries of the IPCC have agreed to commission a Special Report on Cities and Climate Change as part of the IPCC 7th Assessment Report. This presents an unprecedented once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the urban remote sensing community to help create the scientific evidence of how urban areas contribute to and are affected by climate change. This talk will discuss the key gaps in knowledge that can help accelerate and scale up urban action for climate change. It will also discuss the need to create accessible and translatable findings that can be of use for urban and national policymakers, the private sector, and other key stakeholders.
