Abstract
The purpose of this research is to identify those block groups with a population greater than two standard deviations above the national mean for the data item in question. Using data from the five year American Community Survey for individual years between 2012 and 2019 the research first determined the mean and the standard deviation for each of the age data values available in the survey data. Once this threshold was determined the block groups with population above the national threshold were identified. Next the national level files were split into their respective state files individually for each of the data years in the survey. Comparing only the 2012 data to the 2019 data the results show small to moderate drops in the critical block group counts in most data categories. The only four categories which showed small to moderate increases were those for the 18 to 19 year olds and the 85 years and over categories for both sexes. It is currently planned to run same evaluation on the data years for 2013 through 2018. It is also planned to evaluate the total population counts of persons living in the critical block groups.
