Abstract
Essential services depend on industrial buildings connected by networks of wires, pipes and roadways. The locations of these buildings are determined by economics, politics and other factors. Functionality is paramount, although cost and safety are important. The appearance of these facilities is often a lower priority. Style and beauty are subjective, but negative visual impacts can generally be minimized by matching a structure to its surroundings. This study explores options for disguising infrastructure, in order to facilitate public acceptance and enhance quality of life. Examination of successful projects leads to the conclusion that camouflage has survival advantages for projects, analogous to well-adapted wildlife in nature.
