Description:
Changes in the physical and chemical properties of terrestrial ecosystems influence the biogeophysical and biogeochemical feedbacks in the land-atmosphere interactions, which involve exchanges of water, energy, and carbon. Thus, the terrestrial ecosystem, directly and indirectly, affects the climate system through both biogeophysical and biogeochemical processes, which can be altered by land cover and land-use changes (LCLUCs). Human-induced LCLUCs, due to expansion and intensification of deforestation, afforestation, and agricultural practices, have been intensively occurred in Asia. This session will explore the effects of LCLUCs on climate to improve our understanding of how the expansion and intensification of LCLUCs have affected the land-atmosphere interactions and thereby the regional climate system in Asia. The papers are invited that focus on the effects of the terrestrial ecosystems on local and regional budgets of water, energy, and atmospheric properties using observational and modeling analysis.
