Description:
Discussion leading toward a new geographical perspective on agency can be a catalyst for quite different thinking across the discipline. It can initiate reflection that turns the human-oriented point of view into an environment-symmetric (animals, plants, places, virtual as well as material “worlds”) approach, both in the dimension of theoretical explanatory narrative and operational research and application programs.
In the proposed session we would like to consider:
- ideas of more-than-human beings
- reciprocal relations between the terms “more-than-human” and “agency”
- rights of biotic and geographic environments
- possibilities to describe a place in the context of dialog with humans
- roles of biotic, geographic, and virtual environment in urban settlements
- agency in virtual environments
- methodological and empirical problems raised by investigating more-than-human agency
