Description
A significant portion of undergraduates in the United States start their academic careers at community colleges. There are nearly 1000 primarily two-year colleges hosting geography or closely related courses, yet only approximately 3% of AAG membership comes from two-year institutions. As such, little is known in aggregate about the state of the discipline at community colleges. A recent survey of community college geography professors was conducted to get a better idea of the state of the discipline at two-year institutions. This session will look at the project and share some of its earliest findings, with a follow-up panel discussion to explore the nature and role of two-year colleges in the field.
