Abstract

Feminist Geography has a long history of advancing and contextualizing feminist discourse in the realm of geography. Feminist cartography is currently challenging us to generate alternative representations of space while shifting habitual cartographic principles to accommodate the pluralistic realities they represent. To make maps, data are required. Increasingly data are being derived from earth observation satellites, machine learning and deep learning under the larger umbrella of artificial intelligence known as GeoAI. Here I ask: What are possibilities for a Feminist GeoAI? Much like Kelly and Bosse call us to "do feminist mapping", I suggest ways in which feminism can inform GeoAI. I take a postmodern feminist approach and apply a “homesteading” approach to GeoAI. The aim being to find the missing bodies and perspectives. I suggest that Feminist GeoAI could invite more perspectives through inclusive algorithms, training data, to seek out the bodies, the local even through the global gaze.
