In the wake of global protests in 2020 and the AAG statement on racism, violence, and systemic inequities, this panel features studies dedicated to foreground geographers’ long-term focus on inequality and rights, diversity and inclusion, and marginalized groups. This panel formed with scholars from around the world (four continents) will contribute to a timely discussion on the geographies of migrants, immigrants, emigrants, diaspora communities, and mobilities as they contextualize race and ethnicity, and problematize our understanding of citizenship, inequality, justice, and intersectionality in various states and societies in Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America. By crossing research boundaries and linking scholarships on migrant and transnational migration across the world, this panel offers a rich sample of theoretical and empirical work on rural-urban migrants, women’s mobilities between Africa and China, Africans in Asia, Asian immigrants in the U.K., and Asian American entrepreneurs in the U.S., before and during Covid-19.
