The goal of this year’s Department Chair’s Luncheon is to provide a (virtual) collegial and informal space to share and discuss some of the major issues Geography departments have faced in this tumultuous year. In particular, I would like for Department Chairs to have an opportunity to share (1) experiences and challenges with COVID-19, particularly strategies that have worked for supporting faculty, (2) strategies and situations with current and projected future budget cuts, and (3) issues and interests regarding diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism in departments. I hope Chairs can come ready to share about obstacles you’ve faced and any successful strategies or plans for addressing them. In addition, I would also like to ask chairs to reflect on how AAG as an organization can provide more value to its members and departments beyond in-person annual meetings, as the organization works toward the goal of future nearly-carbon neutral meetings
