Abstract
The international public's unrelenting focus on climate issues, as well as ongoing environmental education, has brought the problem of climate change to the forefront in recent years. The problem of climate change is faced the entire globe, especially cities inhabitants. In the context of urban spaces, it is extremely important to systemically counteract them. However, it is essential to create a mechanism that engages all government levels, from the regional to the national and international level. The analysis and interpretation of actions taken by cities as a result of top-down standards and directives are therefore crucial. In case of Polish cities, the directions of undertaken activities is particularly influenced by the restrictive EU ecological policy. Sometimes, restrictive standards and legal regulations spark debate to the rightness of taken pro-ecological activities. Therefore, it is a question about the validity of strategic objectives and their real impact on combating climate change. Particular attention should be paid to post-socialist cities, which are still newcomers in acting green processes, comparing to the Western Europe’s cities.
The study aimed to analyse the green strategies adopted by Polish cities, focused on actions aimed at counteracting climate change.
Research was based on the analysis of strategic documents and sustainable development strategies functioning in selected cities. In addition, to determine the real impact of the measures assumed in the strategies, the author carried out the Internet research to find out information about pro-environmental activities taken in the cities, based on content posted on social network.
